Undoubtedly, solid waste became evident in the growing global population and increasing
industrial activities. By executing some enactments, formulating different alternatives, and
focusing on having sustainable yet eco-friendly cities and communities, solid waste
material and other industrial waste can be used in a way that proper disposals are being
highlighted. Thus, by the use of Mahogany seed pod, researchers have utilized its
practicality to create a new type of construction material focusing on a wood-based
product. Due to that reason, researchers investigated the compatibility of Mahogany Seed
Pod and Isocyanate Resin as binders for particleboard. Through study, researchers have
developed a Particle Board using Mahogany Seed Pod and Isocyanate Resin as binders to
produce an alternative material for construction use. The researchers created five mix
designs with MSP: isocyanate 97:3, 95:5, 93:7, 91:9, and 89:11. Each board was replicated
3 times for a more accurate result. The board dimensions of 40cm x 40cm x 1.2cm with a
target density of 0.80g/cc. The board underwent Density Variation (DV), Water Absorption
(WA), and Thickness swelling Test (TS) for Physical properties and Inter Bond strength
(IB), and Modulus of Rupture (MOR) for Mechanical properties. Results under different
tests showed that Thickness Swelling (TS), Face Screw Withdrawal (FS), and Internal
Bond Strength (IB) passed the requirements under PNS standard 230: 1989 for IB and FS
and PNS ISO 16893:2017 for IB; Highlighting MD4 as the best mix design with its 91:9
mix ratio.
