A vise is a mechanical apparatus to secure a workpiece to allow work to be performed.
Vises have two (2) parallel jaws, one (1) fixed and the other movable, threaded in and out
by a screw and lever. Vise is the most commonly used tool in a machine shop. It can hold
different workpiece varieties, making benchwork or machine work easier. Due to its
spectacular design, it can make machinist life easier. It consists of two (2 )jaws that can
securely clamp the workpiece, whatever the shape is. A lead screw is responsible for
moving the jaw and a base where an operator can securely mount the vise. A standard
mechanical vise is practical enough to serve its purpose. However, the industry values
precision, time, and overall convenience. Moreover, though vise is convenient, it also has
many downsides, especially in a world where everything is almost automated. That is why
the researchers make a new design that can exceed the previous design regarding those
categories. That is why the Foot-operated Hydraulic Milling Vise is made. The first goal
of this design is to remove the clamping limitation of vice by making the jaws independent,
so an operator can easily clamp the more extended and broader workpiece. The second is
to make the user's hand more versatile to do other operations while clamping the workpiece.
The researchers make the clamping mechanism to be operated by foot so the user's hand
can focus on doing other stuff. Furthermore, the third is to reduce the set-up time by making
the clamping mechanism automatic.
