The study intends to determine the effectiveness of dried flamboyant pods in the physical
and mechanical properties of sawdust and polyester ceiling board to address the health
issues and the rise of electric bills caused by global warming. The perceived solution is to
utilize flamboyant pods in ceiling board with sawdust and unsaturated polyester resin.
The researchers produced six different mix ratios: 15:25:60, 20:20:60, 25:15:60, 10:20:70,
15:15:70, and 20:10:70 of alkaline-treated flamboyant pod particles, sawdust, and
polyester resin to assess the effects on the ceiling board’s performance. The pressing
procedure employs a hydraulic jack and metal molder, with the prototype being pressed
within 2 hours and cured for 3 days. The testing was then performed in conformance with
the ASTM C 209 standards. The results indicated that the physical and mechanical
performance of the ceiling board increases as the weight load of the flamboyant pod
increases. The prototype passed most of the tests, not only for ceiling panels but also
surpassed the minimum requirements for structural wall sheathing. The concluded
optimal design for a ceiling board made of flamboyant pods, sawdust, and unsaturated
polyester resin is 20:20:60, as it was the lightest and passed all the tests conducted for the
insulation board. The prototype was evaluated by 50 evaluators composed of 20 CT
students, 10 licensed civil engineers, 10 CT faculty, 5 skilled workers, and 5 hardware
owners, which received a numerical rating of 4.54 interpreted as “Highly Acceptable”.
