Dissertation note: College of Industrial Technology .-- Bachelor of Technology major in Civil Engineering Technology: Technological University of the Philippines, 2019. Summary: The researchers developed a particle board using a leather tanned solid waste as an alternative raw material and isocyanate resin as binder. This study aims to determine the physical and mechanical properties of Leather Tannery Waste Particle Board (LTWPB) using the proposed mixture designs. The reason for conducting this research is to minimize the growing volume of leather tannery waste and solve the problem of particle boards in water absorption and swelling. The preparation of materials and the production of the board were conducted by the researchers at the Valenzuela Leather Tannery Corp., and University of the Philippines – Los Baños, respectively. The production started by mixing and molding the shaved leather tanned waste and isocyanate resin using the 3 mixture designs, followed by hot pressing and curing for 3 days. All boards were subjected to series of testing’s in accordance to the Philippine National Standard (PNS 230:1989). The LTWPB was evaluated by 30 evaluators composed of students, professors, and professionals under the College of Industrial Technology, College of Architecture and Fine Arts and Integrated Research and Training Center. The LTWPB was rated with an overall mean of “Very Acceptable”. This signifies that the LTWPB is qualified as a construction material which can be used in the construction industry.
