| 520 | _aThe adsorption of hexavalent chromium (Cr6+) using synthesized PANI/cotton composite was investigated in this study. Two different oxidizing agents (potassium persulfate and ferric nitrate) and dopants (acetic acid and aspartic acid) were used for the polymerization of aniline monomers. PANI/cotton composite was characterized by Scanning Electron Microscopy and Fourier Transformed Infrared and thermogravimetric analysis. The results showed that the PANI/cotton composite reduces and converts hexavalent chromium (Cr6+) to trivalent chromium (Cr3+). The removal efficiency of PANI/cotton composite was examined using UV-Vis spectroscopy at different contact time. PANI/cotton that utilizes potassium persulfate as an oxidizing agent and acetic acid as dopant for polymerization of aniline efficiently demonstrated great removal capacity towards hexavalent chromium (Cr6+) because of its recyclability. PANI/cotton Fe3+ can be used for 2 cycles only while potassium persulfate can be used in 4-5 cycles and the reduction of hexavalent chromium was continuous.SEM analysis showed that PANI/cotton-K2S2O8 appears to be rougher and denser.
