520 _aThis study determined the phytochemical constituents, antioxidant property, and toxicity of Terminalia microcarpa (kalumpit) seed extracts obtained using two different solvents: ethanol and ethyl acetate. The study employed the Brine Shrimp Toxicity Test to measure the toxicity and the Folin-Ciocalteu Assay to determine the total phenolics content indicative of antioxidant potential. Results demonstrated that both solvents extracted bioactive compounds exhibiting a dose-dependent toxicity. Ethyl acetate extracts revealed more pronounced toxicity than ethanol extracts. However, ethanol was significantly more efficient in extracting antioxidant compounds, with an average total phenolics content of 315.67 mg GAE per mL, compared to 27.67 mg GAE per mL for ethyl acetate. The study concludes that ethanol is a more suitable solvent for extracting antioxidants from Terminalia microcarpa seeds due to its higher yield and lesser toxicity. It is advisable to conduct further research to identify the specific bioactive compounds present in the extracts, establish their correlation with the observed properties, and evaluate the safety of these extracts for potential applications.
