520 _aThough these welding and grinding processes waste time and pose health and safety hazards, dust and debris generated by them contribute to the buildup in the workplace. Manual cleaning method is not time consuming, but at the same time it may not safe. Therefore, Portable Improvised Equipment Vacuum was developed in order to remove metal dust from the workplace, in which this would increase workplace cleanliness and safety. The suction motor, which has a maximum of 3200 rpm, is of wheel type and it has a storage passage for a 70-liter dual compartment carrying container against which a mesh wire filter is placed to isolate the debris. It also features a retractable 10-meter power cord for expanded mobility, a wheel cart with 360-degree caster wheels and brake lock, greater stability and other features. The prototype was tested to withstand, and the performance, functionality and stability of the prototype. The device was able to form the completed NHLO at an operational time of 6:45 to 7:10 minutes for filling the compartments to its maximum capacity. It was able to separate large debris, dust, clogged and read the weight accurately in the LED Indicator. The retractable power cord, the caster wheels for easy travel and flat positioning, the load sensor, and the buzzer were all fairly reliable at full capacity. Fifty respondents were evaluated on their relative functionality, durability, aesthetics, safety and economy using 4.5 overall mean rating, and evaluated the prototype as made by faculty, welding experts and students at the Technological University of the Philippines. The findings indicate that the prototype offers a new and effective means to industry cleaning that boosts productivity, alleviates health hazard and provides safer working place. Keywords: welding dust, metal debris, industrial vacuum, suction motor, debris segregation, LED indicator, load sensor, caster wheels, brake lock, retractable power cord.
