| 520 | _aThe study focused on utilizing coconut husk and Polyester resin in the development of Medium-Density Fiberboard (MDF) as an alternative material using polyester resin as a binder. The purpose was to develop a medium-density fiberboard using the two materials that were manually pressed. The evaluation of the fiberboard focused on its physical and mechanical properties. There are three (3) mix designs, which are the 20:80, 30:70, and 40:60 with 300 mm x 300mm x 12mm dimensions. The coconut husk and polyester were mixed, molded, pressed, and cured for three (3) days. After curing, the produced boards were trimmed and underwent testing procedures in accordance with the PNS 230:1989 for type 150 Specification for medium-density fiberboard to determine the mechanical, Modulus of Rupture (MOR), Internal Bond (IB), Face Screw Hold Test (FSHB), and physical properties, Water Absorption (WA), and Thickness Swelling (TS). Based on the six (6) evaluation criteria, coconut husk as an alternative material and polyester resin as the binder for fiberboard are very acceptable, which gains an overall mean of 4.36 based on the TUP Evaluation Instrument for a developed prototype. | ||
