This study, “Utilization of Sugarcane Bagasse and Eggshell as Lightweight Paper<br/>Packaging,” aimed to produce a paper as secondary packaging. The study used sugarcane<br/>bagasse and eggshell as the major raw materials in creating the product. The sugarcane<br/>bagasse was obtained from Wong Kei restaurant in Ongpin Street, Binondo, Manila, while<br/>the eggshells were collected from TJS Bakeshop in Bacoor, Cavite. Due to the accessibility<br/>of the sugarcane bagasse, eggshell, and other materials needed, the researchers were able<br/>to develop a paper measuring 8.2 x 11.7 centimeters. Results of the tear strength testing is<br/>2.84 N/40 mm using a load cell, it showed that the developed product is within the<br/>acceptable range. Meanwhile, the tensile strength result is 12.59 N/20 mm, which means<br/>that the material is highly acceptable. The results were conducted and analyzed from<br/>Adamson University Technology Research Development Center (AUTRDC). The product<br/>was also evaluated by 60 respondents from the Graphic Arts and Printing Technology<br/>Department. The evaluation on the acceptability of the product is based on the 6 criteria<br/>namely: functionality, workability, durability, safety, aesthetics, and economy. The<br/>evaluation resulted with an overall mean of 4.66 with a descriptive rating of “Highly<br/>Acceptable” which means that the sugarcane bagasse and eggshell have potentials to be<br/>used for developing paper for packaging. |
