This study aimed to address the challenges faced by third-year Information and<br/>Communication Technology (ICT) students at the Technological University of the<br/>Philippines – Manila, particularly the need for an interactive learning platform to<br/>improve their understanding of web development fundamentals. The objective was<br/>to design, develop, and evaluate Quickie Learn, a web-based platform intended to<br/>enhance students’ comprehension and engagement in web development<br/>concepts. This research utilized a mixed-methods, design-based research<br/>research design, with four phases. The online platform included the essential web<br/>technologies of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, used to develop lessons inclusive of<br/>practical tasks with phenomenological principles. Iterative testing (Eisenhauer et<br/>al., 2018) was conducted with third and fourth year, ICT students, who provided<br/>feedback regarding usability, enjoyment, and learning effectiveness of the online<br/>platform and educational tasks. The findings indicated a positive change in<br/>students' understanding, engagement, and associated with development of<br/>problem solving skills after having used the platform. The findings supports<br/>Quickie Learn and its ability to help increase the learning opportunities and<br/>challenges for web development educational challenges. This platform has been<br/>conceived as a novel approach for learning and will facilitate learning opportunities<br/><br/>for ICT students, educators and institutions by providing an interactive and needs-<br/>based education and learning experiences. |
