BSIE-ICT students at the Technological University of the Philippines<br/>encounter challenges in computer assembly and disassembly due to insufficient<br/>procedural knowledge, which often leads to unintentional damage to components.<br/>To tackle this issue, the researchers created a web-based Virtual System Unit<br/>designed as a preparatory tool for Computer System Servicing. This tool enables<br/>students to gain procedural knowledge and practice safely in a simulated<br/>environment. Its web-based format ensures that it is accessible on various<br/>devices. The study involved 47 BSIE-ICT students from the 2nd to 4th year, along<br/>with hardware experts chosen through random and purposive sampling. Data<br/><br/>collection was conducted through interviews and surveys, utilizing a Design-<br/>Based Research (DBR) approach that included four phases: Problem<br/><br/>Identification, Design and Development, Iterative Testing, and Synthesis of Design<br/>principles. The system was improved based on expert feedback which validated<br/>its accuracy,<br/>functionality, and usability. In line with John Dewey’s philosophy of “Experiential<br/>Learning,” the Virtual System Unit serves as an effective and accessible tool to<br/>enhance students’ skills in computer assembly and disassembly, addressing their<br/>educational challenges. |
