Increases in the production of building materials also contribute to an increase in
greenhouse gas emissions and the depletion of natural resources. The development of
useful composite materials out of agricultural waste has emerged as a desirable option in
recycling. Insulation is one of these materials, which is becoming increasingly important
in the energy performance of buildings and, in turn, reducing the detrimental
environmental effects of the built environment. In this paper, the agricultural waste of
banana sheath was independently utilized in the production of insulation board, Isocyanate was used as a binder and was manufactured using 97:3 95:5 93:7, wherein the
first variable is the proportion of the banana sheath, and the second is the proportion of
Isocyanate in ratio with a board and a target density of 0.5 kg/cm3. The Insulation board
was subjected to Thickness Swelling (TS) and Water Absorption Test (WA) to determine
the Physical Properties, Internal Bond Test, and Face Screw Holding Test (FSHT) for the
Mechanical Properties and Temperature Resistance to determine the resistance to heat
flow in Thermal Properties. All of the tests conducted are inclined to the Philippines
National Standard (PNS) requirements for general-purpose medium-density fiberboard. Results revealed that Insulation Board did not pass any of the standard requirements of
PNS ISO 16895-2:2015 on both mechanical and physical property tests. For the thermal
property, all of the mix ratios meet the standard of ASTM C518 Under the test method
specifications that thermal resistance must be greater than 0.10 m2 K/W.
