The manual preparation of halo-halo, such as manual scooping and measuring of
toppings, leads to uneven portions, long waiting times, and possible hygiene issues.
These problems can impact the quality of the product and customer satisfaction. Due to
this, the researchers aimed to solve these problems by designing and building a
semi-automated halo-halo making machine that can enhance the production of halo-halo.
The machine has main features such as a user-interface panel where the user can choose
up to eight different toppings, an ice chamber, an automatic ice shaver, and eight separate
topping dispensers. It can produce 8 cups, each containing 16 ounces of halo-halo, in 6-7
minutes. The performance of the machine was tested based on how consistent the
portions are and the overall quality of the halo-halo. The study also looked into the
cost-effectiveness and efficiency of the production process. This project aimed to
improve the way halo-halo is prepared, while keeping the traditional charm of this
well-loved Filipino dessert.
